The SAIHF Roadshow Comes to Gauteng

While COVID-19 has brough along many challenges, the desire to create competition and resume active participation in response to athlete development and overall sports growth within the sporting world has never been so fierce, and although there is still tons of uncertainty with regards to the road going forward one things for certain… We’re not going down without a fight!

This May was no exception to the statement, as we teamed up with the South African Ice Hockey Federation to bring the first ever Roadshow to Gauteng, thereby providing a week of jam-packed innovation to the sporting code, while also making sure our members were provided with the unique opportunity to develop their skills in an exciting and safe manner.

Lead by Andre Marais (Convener of Coaches for South African Ice Hockey) and his team, the group made certain that every inch of ice was utilized to the greatest extent from the moment the players stepped on to the ice.

While the effortless transition between practices and skill level is indicative to the cohesion and experience of the SAIHF team, which left everyone urging for more by the end of the week the pure raw hunger and determination from each GIHA participant should definitely not go uncheck as it was undoubtedly key to a successful first roadshow and, while the initiative might have started off slow the rise in success of the roadshow as the days progressed is testament to each athlete and their unwavering ability to “get to work” and remind us all exactly what it means to be an athlete and even more so an ice hockey player in Gauteng, South Africa.

So, if this experience has shown us anything it is that sport must go on and we’re guaranteed that the next round of roadshows will be even better!

Make sure you stay tuned to our social media to catch all the excitment stilll to come.

Gauteng Skills Development Program

Off ice programs to help you become the player you want to be.

Introduction & Hello

We sincerely hope that all of you as members of GIHA and your families are safe and are also finding ways to manage the stresses and ‘new normals’ which have
suddenly become a reality for us all.

We are all very much looking forward to, hopefully in the near future, being able to participate in the sport that we all love and also see our fellow hockey family
members again.

At the beginning of the lockdown we consulted with members of the SAIHF executive and the director of coaching to decide on an approach that would serve
our players best during this period. We took the decision to give everyone some space and also some time to (a) come to terms with the challenges, and
(b) re-energize and spend time away from ice-hockey.

Passion and energy are key ingredients for any player and family who participates in ice-hockey and who wants to drive towards their own personal goals. However,
most importantly, enjoyment and having fun with the sport ensures you get the most out of the commitment and sacrifices.

Improvement and learning leads to enjoyment so in the background we have been working on plans to help the players work on their skills away from the ice rink.
This includes an off-ice skills program and also some physical conditioning programs which will follow in a few weeks time.

We hope all our members will use these programs and also stand in line to win a trip overseas next year to Sweden. The details of this prize will follow next week!

StarZone Sports & GIHA Partnership

Our friends in Sweden have also been challenged by the worldwide pandemic.

Together with the SAIHF they have been working on avenues of how to overcome some of the obstacles we all face. Our National Squads have been using their technology
platforms and associated programs over the past season and the feedback has been very positive and our players have shown massive improvements in the areas of focus.

In light of this and before the lockdown we engaged with our partners to plan a roll out of programs which are more specific to our needs as a provincial body and also, given the
exchange rate of Euro/Rands, also a way to make it affordable for our members.

Programs

We are excited to let you know that the programs are now ready for all members of Gauteng to subscribe to.

Together with StarZone we have created three programs for our members:

1.Entry Level Program (Aimed at u10 - u14)

2.Mid Level Program (Aimed at u15 - u18)

3.High Level Program (Aimed at u20 and up)
